THESEUS research in QUEST

mussle bank
Mussel banks provide coastal protection.

THESEUS research was highlighted in the yearly special edition of the Dutch magazine Quest. This edition, which was co-edited by the The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), contains an contribution on the research findings of Jim van Belzen of NIOZ. The article discusses the importance of mussel and oyster banks as a coastal protection mechanism. By decreasing the height of the incoming waves and by helping capture sediments, they protect the hinterland from coastal erosion.

The article is freely available at page 21 of the special edition QUEST ExperimentNL (Dutch only).
